There are now over 700 pages on the Sell It! Web site and if I were to be honest I would have to admit that most of them share one underlying assumption: that my readers know what it is they want to sell, they just don't know how to go about selling it online.
However, from the many e-mail messages I receive it is clear that this is often not the case. Time and again I receive messages from people who are incredibly excited about the possibility of being able to sell on the Internet, and are willing to invest the time and money needed to make an online business work, if only they could figure out what it is they are going to sell!
For those who don't have a current product or service that is suitable for selling on the Internet there are really only two possible solutions: to develop a new product themselves or to make an agreement to sell someone else's product in return for a commission or finder's fee.
Not surprisingly, the second approach usually seems the most attractive because it appears to offer the easiest and quickest way to get started, and this helps to explain the increasing popularity of affiliate or associate programs.
However the first solution, developing your own product, may not be as hard as you might think. Indeed, Monique Harris the co-creator of Make Your Knowledge Sell! (MYKS!) reckons that each of us has some unique knowledge or experience - for example caring for elderly parents - that we can develop in to an information based product or “infoproduct” that is ideal for selling online.
Of course, whilst this may sound pretty straightforward, there are a number of significant hurdles to be overcome: for example, how to select the best topic, and then how to write, publish and market an infoproduct. This then, is exactly what MYKS! has been created for: to help the would-be “infopreneur” launch the perfect infoproduct.
MYKS! takes the form of a 330 plus page PDF file which can either be read on-screen or printed out. It takes a fairly structured approach, carefully leading the reader through a step-by-step process from selection of a suitable topic, through writing tips and on to successful infoproduct marketing techniques.
MYKS!'s first key section is designed to help with the selection of a suitable topic for the infoproduct, and takes the format of a series of idea-generating exercises. And, in case these techniques don't produce an obvious subject, Monique also includes a list of 50 topics that she reckons should form the basis of great infoproducts.
Once the topic has been selected the next step is to decide how to package it, and MYKS! provides advice on how to create manuals, booklets, e-books, password protected Web sites, audio tapes, videos, newsletters, and teleseminars.
When the subject matter and packaging have been chosen, it's then time for the “real work” to begin: yes, it's time to get writing! Thankfully for those who are not natural authors, MYKS! includes some very useful techniques to help with the writing process and ease authors through any "writers blocks" that may crop up. There are also all some good tips on picking an attention-grabbing title.
MYKS! then finishes off with some quality advice on pricing and promotional techniques including how to build an affiliate program.
The other name that appears on the credits for MYKS! is Ken Evoy who is best-known as the author of Make Your Site Sell! which, since its launch last year, has established itself as the "bible" of Internet marketing. Ken's presence is felt in three ways in MYKS!: he pops up frequently within the text with a series of "Ken's Comments" where he highlights and expands on key points that Monique is making; the style and feel of MYKS! is identical to MYSS!; and, just as with MYSS!, Ken has bundled with MYKS! a large number of free products and tools.
One of the goals that Ken set himself with MYSS! was to over-deliver, that is, to give his readers everything they could possibly expect and then some more. And the good news for MYKS! customers is that Ken has continued with this policy, for the MYKS! ebook I have been describing so far in this review is only one of nine items contained within the MYKS! bundle.
Two of these additional items are a well structured and "clickable" Table of Contents and Index, whilst the other six items are:
- Ken Silver's eBook Secrets: a guide to creating and marketing ebooks.
- Monique's own Jump Start Kit: this contains templates and checklists to help get started quickly with an infoproduct project.
- 186 Marketing Places and 120 New Marketing Places: two lists of places to sell and promote an infoproduct.
- Buying and Selling Reprint Rights: how to find and license suitable products to bundle with an infoproduct.
- The Automation Manual: how to automate the order processing and delivery of an infoproduct.
And if all this wasn't enough, the package also includes 30 minutes of free consultancy with Monique.
Verdict: Ken and Monique have delivered what they promised: the ultimate guide to creating an infoproduct. If you are considering creating your own infoproduct, then a copy of MYKS! should definitely be at the top of your shopping list.
