New service helps businesses geo-target online customers
[April 8th 2001]
Caimis Geo Inc. has introduced IPMapper, its subscription data service that accurately maps IP addresses to geographic locations, providing businesses with the power to locate their customers and users with rapid transaction speed and accuracy.
IPMapper uses proprietary data collection and advanced placement heuristics to pinpoint specific locations for IP addresses and capable of sustained throughput of more than 3,500 queries per second, making IPMapper ideal for high volume, real-time use.
In the competitive e-Business environment, it is important to attract and retain customers. In order to do this successfully, knowing where the customers live, what language they speak and a host of other specific information is necessary to maintain a strong customer base. Caimis Geo tracks the changes of the Internet as ISPs and networks reassign IP addresses, change network architectures and activate new blocks of IP addresses. Customers' IPMapper databases are then updated frequently, automatically and transparently via a remote update process.
"The Internet research community has used geographic location information to analyze Internet usage and growth patterns for almost a decade," said Tracie Monk, CEO of Caimis Inc., sister company of Caimis Geo, and former director of the University of California's Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA). "The difference today is that the data is more accurate and the private sector is beginning to acknowledge the commercial value of geographic placement information for their businesses."
Capabilities of IPMapper include Web content customization, targeted advertising, user authentication and fraud detection, digital rights management and network analysis. Web developers can tailor content by language, country or regional interests.
