Ten Key Resources to Help You Build Your Store

by Bill H.

Every week we receive a number of requests asking for help in locating a piece of information or a product. More often than not, we direct the request to the same set of resources. So to help you in your search for information, we’ve listed (in no particular order) our top ten favorite resources to help you build your store.

Audette Media
Formed in November 1995, the goal of the Internet Sales Moderated Discussion List is to provide a forum for meaningful and helpful discussion of online sales issues by those engaged in the online sale of products and services. John Audette, a leading expert on Internet marketing, moderates the list. It is published daily by e-mail. The discussion list was spun off from the successful I-Sales list at the end of 1997. It too is targeted at those involved in online sales, but focuses more on helping people solve specific problems. Moderated by Eva Rosenberg, it is published by e-mail three times a week.

Search Engine Watch
This site contains everything you ever wanted to know about search engines, including how they work and how to improve your site’s ranking. They also publish a weekly e-mail newsletter that contains all the latest search engine news.

Wilson Web
This site contains a wealth of links to articles relating to every aspect of Web commerce. Much of the information is free, although some areas are accessible by paying subscribers only. The site also publishes a free monthly newsletter, Web Commerce Today.

CNET
In order to run a successful Web store you don’t need to be a technical expert, but an understanding of how the underlying technologies work and how they might change in the future can be very useful. As well as carrying all the latest technical news on-line, CNET’s NEWS.COM publishes a weekly summary that provides links to all the major Internet stories from the previous week.

Internet World
Previously published as Web Week, Internet World contains all the latest Internet news, divided in to several categories including e-commerce, business, finance, and new products. A weekly newsletter is also available.

Builder.com
If you’re building a Web site yourself, CNET’s Builder.com has an abundance of articles and advice to assist you. There is also a weekly newsletter, Builder Blast, which has details of the latest articles available on the site.

eMARKETER
This site aims to be the definitive online marketing resource. It includes news, statistics and step-by-step guides to succeeding online. A weekly newsletter is also available.
