I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that quote that nothing has happened until you sell something. Sales are the lifeblood of any business. Through my experience, I have seen that many people get so excited when starting a business and they try and do more selling to angel investors and VC’s than they do of their own product. The beauty of bootstrapping is that you can start from scratch and begin selling your product and your business can take off and explode that route. I agree with you that it is the best option to do that.

Thanks for a great article! I started using WeFulfillIt.com for my fulfillment house a few years ago, after the previous fulfillment house I was using suddenly went out of business. WeFulfillIt.com has been great! They rescued me from a difficult situation. They are very supportive and responsive to all my needs. They don’t have any minimum requirements, like some fulfillment houses, so they are great for a startup company with a small number of orders, and you can grow with them as your orders increase! I’ve been using them to ship out fiber juice for me, and they’ve done such a good job, that I’m going to have them stock a new product for me, a powdered peanut butter for dieters. Selling your products immediately will get you out of your comfort zone early and get you out of the “perfect product” mindset. When it comes to bootstrapping your business, perfect is most definitely the enemy of good enough.

I’m totally convinced that generating your first sales and building traction very early BEFORE you incur any significant costs is not only possible, it’s critical.

There are an infinite number of resources available both online and off that can help us to launch any business for very few out-of-pocket dollars in the beginning.

About 1 year ago I would have said that I totally agree with the posts above, “Business without money” I would have said you are crazy, however then I started to barter my skills for services that I needed to keep my business running, and to my surprise I have cut my costs by almost 30% of course this also means that I have more work to do, but as the economy is slow right now, I think most people will be grateful over more work.
